Review: Wildfire Gospel (Santeria Habitat #3) by Kenya Wright

I am so freakin' excited to be posting this review. I know I am excited all the time when it comes to reviews...but this one...
This book is one that I have been waiting for and I lucked out in getting to edit it! Dream come true, for real. 
SO here is the cover and a bit about the book...

LANORE'S TO-DO LIST
#1- Set Dante on fire until he’s nothing but smoke and ash.

#2- Find Nona and Mother Earth, tie them to a tree, and create the biggest bonfire Santeria has ever seen.

#3- Find out if there is anybody higher in Mother Earth's psychotic chain of command.

#4- Burn anybody else to a crisp if they get in my fucking way.

Lanore destroys her old beliefs of nonviolence. Flames of revenge now fuel her movements forward. Too many of her loved ones have died, and she's done shedding tears. Sadly, she can't boil Dante's blood just yet. He has the resources to help her and Zulu. Discovering Mother Earth's whereabouts is proving more difficult than expected. She's not what they thought she was. She's something more.

Meanwhile, Lanore's father is missing. Normally, that wouldn't trigger stress, but whispers are spreading around the habitat like a wildfire. A Demon with feline eyes and fire-spotted cheetah skin appeared at the Masquerade Ball right after MeShack was killed. Lanore hopes her father will have some answers.

Is this Demon only a coincidence? Is Lanore just grasping at a last bit of hope that somehow MeShack is alive, or should she face the truth of his death.

Since this book isn't out yet I won't be posting any spoilers (even though I freakin' want to.) I've decided that instead of writing a full on review, I'm going to let the gifs speak for me.

Kenya Wright is an evil mastermind. This book is EVERYTHING I wanted it to be, and at the same time it was nothing I expected. 
So go and read it...if not, I will get Lanore to burn you. ;)

Review: On Demon Wings by Karina Halle

My Review:

It's no secret that I have been reading the Experiment in Terror series by Karina Halle and absolutely loving them and I feel no differently about this book. I have to admit that it is extremely different from the other books. If I thought the other books were dark than this one was born in the pits of hell. 

(And I mean that in a good way, really.)

The story-line before now was more of a fun and rather innocent journey. Perry and Dex expanded their relationship through their YouTube ghost hunter show called Experiment in Terror. But all innocence died with the ending of Lying Season (EIT #4). Perry's character has evolved like no other character I have ever read. The reader gets to see Perry at the lowest point in her life and gets to experience the fright of the things that are going on around her. Perry questions her sanity and Halle does a fabulous job of putting the reader in Perry's shoes. 

I was questioning my own sanity while I read this book. (I know, I should have questioned it long before now, lol). 
Of course questioning my lucidity isn't the only thing this book invoked. I was absolutely shit-my-pants terrified for the ENTIRE book. 

I'm freaking serious. I actually made this exact face and ran from my kindle into a bunch of coats more than once while reading this book. 

As an overall look at the book--I loved it. Granted it didn't have enough Dex in it, but I understand why. The things that happen in this book are MAJOR, people. MAJOR! I am so excited to read Old Blood (EIT #5.5) which is Pippa's story. In fact I think I will start it tonight. 

I give On Demon Wings FIVE stars!

Review: Complicated by You by Kenya Wright

So I read this book today and I am knots--TOTAL knots people. It made me happy, horny, angry, and then slightly psychotic because I need to know what happens. I can't wait until I read the next book. Seriously people! I CAN'T wait!

First here is a little about the book...

Evie's childhood friend Jay has always had her back. But college complicates things as Jay starts dating Evie's roommate Cynthia. Now, Evie spends her nights trying to sleep while Jay and Cynthia go at it like rabbits a few feet away!
Evie hates feeling like a third wheel and hates wishing it was her in Jay's arms even more. It doesn't help that Jay won't let Evie date or even hook up withoutinterfering and making sure everyone on campus knows that she's off limits.

Something has to give. Evie can't continue pining away for Jay, and Jay can't continue to act like he owns her when he won't so much as touch her. And worse of all, Evie can barely look Cynthia in the eye for fear she will know just how she feels about Jay.

Then one night shifts Evie, Jay and Cynthia into an web of love and deceit,tangling their hearts and forcing one of them to come to a compromise that will change all their lives.

My Review:
Prepare yourself...There will be spoilers, spoilers, and more spoilers!!

Seriously.

I like Evie's character a lot. She is very likable and has a good head on her shoulders. She has loved her best friend Jay since they were kids, but thought that he would never love her back...until she finds out that she is completely wrong about this. Jay has really loved her all along. He can't stand the idea of her being with someone else and sets out to sabotage any other relationships--sexual or otherwise--that she tries to take part in. 

BUT of course he has a totally beautiful girlfriend named Cynthia.  He doesn't want to break up with Cynthia because he is afraid that it will hurt her feelings... 

I want to smack him in his super attractive face. Like, for real. Who cares if you hurt her feelings?! Hurt them already!

I get that Jay doesn't want to be a bad person...but prolonging the situation just makes it worse. 

BUT then something totally cray happens. Cynthia (Jay's girlfriend) approaches Jay and Evie with a proposition. She wants to have a joint relationship...

Jay thinks it is a fabulous idea. Which, I mean, DUH, of course he does. Thank the lord Evie has some sense and thinks it's ridiculous, but that doesn't stop her from agreeing to it!

 

I understand where she is coming from, I mean she wants the guy...but she is going to have to share him. I couldn't do it. Jay would be mine and there would be no if, ands, or buts about it. Unless he wanted me to remove his testicles by force...but of course that is different post for a different day... ;)

The book ends on a happy note, with the promise of more drama and craziness to come in the strange triangle relationship. I will definitely be picking up the next book. No doubt about it. Kenya pulls you into the story and makes you want to know more, no matter how f'ed up you might think the situation is she makes you believe that there is potential for anything and everything to work and fall apart all at once. I can't wait for the next installment. I hope that Jay comes to his senses and leaves Cynthia. I just can't wait to find out!!

Review: Broken by Megan Hart

It's 1am and I'm writing a review. Not because I'm bored, but because I couldn't wait until morning to share how I feel about this book. Seriously. 

Broken by Megan Hart

My name is different every month—Brandy, Honey, Amy…sometimes Joe doesn't even bother to ask—but he never fails to arouse me with his body, his mouth, his touch, no matter what I'm called or where he picks me up. The sex is always amazing, always leaves me itching for more in those long weeks until I see him again.

My real name is Sadie, and once a month over lunch Joe tells me about his latest conquest. But what Joe doesn't know is that, in my mind, I'm the star of every X-rated one-night stand he has revealed to me, or that I'm practically obsessed with our imaginary sex life. I know it's wrong. I know my husband wouldn't understand. But I can't stop. Not yet.

My Review:

I would like to start off my review with this gif. 

This is exactly what my face looked while reading Broken. (Yes, I wore this ridiculous O face for more than twenty-four hours. The people at the grocery store looked at me funny.) 

I purchased the book because I thought the blurb sounded awesome. Like, super awesome. But the book...it ended up being so much more than I could ever even begin to explain. That sounds corny as hell, like a first date that won't have a second... but seriously. Broken is AMAZING. I previously read Dirty by Megan Hart. I liked the book, BUT I didn't love it. This book is on a totally different wavelength. 

I'm not kidding. 8% in my mind was blown. Literally splattered on the wall. 

(Yes, I seriously just got that graphic). 

Megan Hart does something with her characters that I can't even begin to describe. The detailed sexual encounters that Joe has from the POV from all different women is off the chain and completely genius. 

She makes you love the characters. Especially Adam. I spent most of the book in turmoil, because I loved Adam's character. 

Even though there were times when I didn't want to love him and I wanted to love Joe. Hart does a spectacular job of making you feel the same emotions that Sadie feels throughout the book. 

This read is raw, full of emotion, and so real there were times I could taste it. I cried. I laughed. I loved. Hats off to Megan Hart. 

This book deserves more than five stars.

Review: Dark House (EIT #1)

Happy Father's Day!! I thought I would celebrate this lovely day dedicated to dads everywhere, by writing a review of a book I read recently (lol, that's not really why I'm posting it, but it sounds nice, right?)
Anyways... I have been reading like a beast lately. In fact I read a book not too long ago that was SO FREAKING GOOD that I wanted to give 100,000 stars. Yes, sounds crazy, right? This review isn't over that book, lol, I'm such a tease I know. I read that one for the BotM read with the lovely Kenya, Dara, and Alicia, and we aren't discussing until later in the month. (I will definitely be posting a review on here at the time.)

Anyway, I recently read Dark House (Experiment in Terror #1) by Karina Halle.

My Review:

First off: I love the cover. Like WOW. Perfect fit for the book, and just absolutely GORGEOUS!

I previously read Sins & Needles and On Every Street by Karina Halle, and it was those books that prompted me to check out her EIT series. 

I have to be honest and say that this book definitely didn't disappoint. I like horror books (occasionally) and this one was everything I expected and so much more. I seriously stayed up late terrified of my own shadow while reading this book, and not able to put it down. 

The romance/sexual tension in this book is hot. BUT keep in mind this isn't intended as a romance. The relationship between Dex and Perry is secondary to the main plot, but that doesn't make it any less entertaining or hot at the same time. 

I really love Perry, the main character. She is very easy to relate to. She is just your average girl leading an average life. She has always struggled with a weight problem and tries very hard to overcome this and have more confidence. She feels like an idiot and clutz a lot of the time and I found myself rooting for her, because she embodies a lot of the characteristics that people/women everywhere deal with on a daily basis. 

All in all I loved this book. 

I give Dark House 5 stars!

Review: Damaged by H.M. Ward

Review day? Don't mind if I do!

This week I read Damaged by H.M. Ward. Before I say anything about the book I would like say that I love the cover. Definitely a good image of Peter. Props to the cover artist. 

Now about the book itself...

I picked up this book because I loved the premise--A college student falls for her hottie professor. UMMM YUM. Lol, this is SO my kind of story, which is why I was pretty bummed out when it ended up being not what I thought it would be. *sigh*

I liked both Sidney and Peter BUT more often than not I found myself thinking--What the heck? Sidney seemed to keep doing things that were totally off from the way her character is presented. For example: She hates to be touched, yet she is an all-star swing dancer. How does that happen?

Also--the whole book deals with the sexual temptation Peter presents to Sidney and how forbidden it is. Sidney is so tempted by him that she can't keep her hands off of him, yet at the end of the book she lays in bed with Peter (the man who she has already admitted that she loves!) and claims to have no sexual desire for him what-so-ever. 

I'm sorry, what? 

Now I'm not trying to be a total sour puss (really I'm not!) I understand that Sidney has issues in her past and so forth, BUT the entire book built on this hot sexual tension of them dancing and working together in close confines that makes their relationship impossible and ever so tempting--just to end with Sidney's suddenly absent sexual appetite. 

Like seriously.

Which means... yes you guessed it. There is NO sex in this book. 

Now I know how that makes me sound, BUT it should have happened. Poor Peter puts up with a lot of crap when it comes to Sidney. He needs to get laid. Plus the WHOLE book is built on sexual tension. Did I mention that already? Right, I did. 

*sigh*

With all of this being said I didn't hate the book. It just wasn't right for me and seemed to have a lot of character flaws. 

I give Damaged 2.5 Stars.

Review: Spartan Nights by DJ Lysander

It's been awhile since I've posted a book review, so today is a good day for one. Don't you think? 

This post is going to be a little different than some of my previous book reviews. This one is about a book named Spartan Nights. A book I edited. Now, I don't usually review books I edit--not because I hate them all and they suck. (I'm not that evil, guys. Come on cut me some slack!)

I don't usually do it because I am up in the air about whether or not I should do it based on editing etiquette 101. Should I review a book that I edited and didn't particularly care for? Should I review only the ones I liked? Should I review none of them? 

These are all questions I ask myself before saying something along the lines of: Fuck it, I'm going to take a nap or play a ridiculously monotonous game on my phone that lowers my brain-cell count by the second. 

All of that aside, I have chosen to review this book for one reason and one reason only. I liked it. 

That's right. I've liked other books I've edited as well, though not all of them have reviews. Why? Please refer to my earlier internal argument. I feel like reviewing this book. So here it is. 

Isn't the cover cool beans? One of the fun parts of editing is getting to see the cover after you've edited something. I think the artist did a great job on this. He definitely resembles Spartan. 

My Review:

This book is different than most erotic romances that I have read. This novella is told solely from a man's POV, though there is plenty of women in the story-line. The Spartan wouldn't be the Spartan if there weren't women flocking to him, lol. The Spartan is very interesting character and in spite of the cover, the story is set in present day about a man who dresses up like a Spartan to go to comic book conventions. That's right ladies, he's nerdy, he's hot, and he's an asshole. My favorite kind of hero. (Seriously).

The author takes the reader on an interesting ride where we get to experience life solely through the eyes of a guy who is used to getting his way when it comes to women. For those of you who don't particularly like male's with this sort of outlook on life, I still think you would like this book. You end up rooting for the Spartan in the end, not to mention left with a dropped jaw at the ending. I am looking forward to the sequel.

Definitely go check it out.

Review: On Every Street by Karina Halle

It's review day! Woo Woo! I recently read On Every Street by Karina Halle. This book is the prequel to Sins & Needles.

My Review:

All I can say is WOW. This book is an emotional roller coaster that I absolutely LOVED. I never thought I would like Javier. NEVER. But I did, in fact, I think I love him. In spite of his assholeish tendencies, lol. He could definitely come looking for me on every street. 

I knew what was coming at the end (since I read Sins & Needles first) and it still broke my heart. I finished this book over a week ago and my heart is still hurting. HOW COULD YOU JAVIER?! 

Yes, I hate to admit it, but this book gave me an ugly Elena crying moment. Still heart broken. Can't wait for book two!

I give On Every Street 4 stars!

Review: Sins & Needles by Karina Halle

Hayyyyy! Again it's review day--this week it's Monday (last week it was Thursday, and if you missed last weeks review-check it out here because that book was the beez neez, just sayin').

Anywho this week I read the book Sins & Needles by Karina Halle. I decided to pick this book up because several of my friends read it, not to mention that the cover if off the chain--I mean just look at it!

Pretty amazing looking huh? 

Here is a little bit about the book before I give my review.

My Review:

When I started reading this book I was kind of disappointed. It started off a little boring and I felt like it was never going to pick up. It did though, pick up that is. Like seriously, I went from being totally bored to 'oh my gosh, what?' I ended up not being about to put it down. Ellie is such a complicated character. I loved following her and learning about her present and her past. Camden is equally likable because he had a hard life as well, being the strange kid in school-to becoming the hottie with all of the tats, not to mention an all around nice guy. Don't let me calling him nice put you off of him though, he is definitely rough around the edges, a man who has been pushed too far and take advantage of a few too many times. 

Overall I really enjoyed reading Sins & Needles, so much in fact, that I already went and purchased the prequel to this one (On Every Street). I recommend this. Go check it out.

Review: Incubus Hunter By Kenya Wright

Helllllllooooooo! It's review day! (Okay admittedly, it's not really review day because I am terribly inconsistent, lol) But it is a day, Thursday, to be more specific AND I am posting a review. Woohoo! Are you excited yet? Because you should be. The book I am reviewing is HOT. Now I'm not talking warm, like sitting next to a fire. I'm talking about swallowing a sparkler hot. 

Seriously. 

Before I say more here is the cover and blurb. 

Whispers swirl throughout the underworld of Carmen, the fanged elf with the violet eyes. They say she hunts incubus demons, not for money, but to clear a debt with a powerful wizard.

My Review:

It's no secret that I am a fan of Kenya Wright. Not a drooling fan girl kind of fan (most of the time), but I do love her writing. Incubus Hunter did not disappoint. 

Carmen is a sexy fanged (yes that's right this girl has fangs!) elf who is hunting an Incubus to get enough money to pay off her missing husband's debt. Only she doesn't plan on finding herself seduced by the ULTRA HOT Blaze. And ladies it is no joke when I say he is SUPER HOT. Woo wee. *fans self* 

The adventure and romance is exciting and HOT, wait...did I already mention that?

Anywho, this is a great read and I definitely recommend it. Can't wait for the next in the series. 

I give Incubus Hunter FIVE stars.

Review: Afterburn by Tara Chevrestt

My review:

Afterburn is fun interesting read that packs a lot of emotion and heartbreaking situations that would be hard for anyone to face. I really liked both of the characters--Crystal and Grant. They have good chemistry and both have their own internal struggle that makes them each compelling and likable. I also really like the title. Fits perfect.

I am a fan of Ms. Chevrestt's work and while this isn't my most favorite one of her books, I still thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone who is in the mood for  an entertaining romantic read.

I give Afterburn 4 stars!

My Review:

All I can say is WOW. I knew that Ms. Wright was an excellent writer based on other things that I have read by her, but this book was phenomenal. I love the world she created inside of The Habitat. There are so many interesting characters, not to mention sexy male counterparts that make you desperate to read more (no joke!)

Lanore is a very complex character as we get to see life from her eyes, a mix breed in a world of pure bloods that control everything. A minority in a world that is fiercely unaccepting of who and what she is. She gives a new meaning to the word 'strong', which is something I highly appreciate. I just love books with strong heroines! 

I have already purchased the second book in the series and can't wait to get started on it. Hope you check it out!

Review: Hidden Gates by D.T. Dyllin

My Review:

I really enjoyed this book in fact it was one of those unexpected reads. I figured it would be good, but I never thought that it would go the way it did, which was quite a pleasant surprise for my mind that's pretty good at predicting what's going to happen.

PJ is a young high school senior that struggles with her seemingly non-existent seer abilities, while realizing that she loves someone she can never have. This is only the beginning of her problems as the world around her shifts, her seer abilities come blazing to the forefront, and she's bombarded with more male attention than she thought would ever have. 

This is definitely a good read for someone who is an adult romance lover looking to bridge the gap and read YA. 

I highly recommend this read and hope you will all go and check it out!

Of course I am not a proclaimed reviewer, but I've decided that when I do read a book and write a review on it, I'm going to post it on here along with my typical posts on Amazon and Goodreads. Earlier this week I read The Silver Stiletto by Isabella Olivia Ellis.

My Review:

From the moment I read the blurb on this book, I was hooked. I love the idea of a spicy Cinderella story. Especially after reading that this naughty Cinderella has a secret BDSM relationship with her step-sister's boyfriend. Talk about hitting them where it hurts, lol. 

This short story didn't disappoint and I am so glad that I read it. If you are in the mood for a wild and crazy fairy tale with a very submissive heroine, then this is the book for you. I hope the author will consider writing Blake's story. I would love to read it.
All in all a great read. 

I give The Silver Stiletto 4 stars.
