"Mr. Lane?" A soft female voice quivered slightly as the words were spoken.
"Yes," he answered as he steady the mare, his hands soothing her. "And you are?"
"Kate. Kate Holden."
She was a good head shorter than him, her dark brown hair tucked under a dusty, battered Akubra. The red and black checked shirt which had seen better days hung on her slight frame; the sleeves rolled up to her elbows showed tanned arms. Her jeans, faded and dirty, were tucked into scuffed brown boots. She looked like a homeless waif.
"What can I do for you, Miss Holden?" A strange feeling tingled his scalp. Crossing his arms, Magnus watched the emotions roll over her face, a face that belonged to a Botticelli angel, not a dusty cowgirl. He suddenly realized he craved this woman with a passion that almost frightened him. Magnus pushed the feelings down and tried to concentrate on her next words.
"You were trying to negotiate with my father, weren't you?" she asked.
He nodded his head, not trusting himself to speak until he knew what she wanted.

"You wanted to buy us out, but that's something I can't do. I wondered if you'd be interested in buying water rights instead?" Kate was wary of the man in front of her. She stood dead still even though her heart thudded. With his heavily muscled arms, he looked every inch the hard businessman her father had warned her about. She had no choice. She had to try and talk him into buying what she had to offer.
"I hardly think this is the place to conduct a business meeting, Miss Holden," he said, looking down at her, a frown marring his brow. "But if you would care to come up to my office we can continue this conversation. Jock, would you mind putting the mare back in her stall please?"
Kate watched him stride away without a backward glance. Looking helplessly toward Jock, she shrugged her shoulders. Damn the man. We've only just met and already he has me running after him. She wiped her sweaty palms on her jeans and hurried to catch up with Magnus.
He led the way up onto the veranda and held a door open for her to enter. "Shall we?" he asked, taking her arm and guiding her down the wide hallway to his office. He dropped his body into the huge old leather chair behind his desk, then leaned back casually.
"Now, you were offering me water rights, is that right?" He picked up a pen from the desk, twisting it between his fingers while he kept his gaze on her.
"Y-yes," Kate stammered, startled as the fax machine rang. She was out of her depth in this plush house, the man opposite her making her insides turn to jelly. Ignoring the noise, she sat on the edge of the chair opposite him and continued. "You only offered my father money for the farm because you wanted the water."
"How do you know what I want, Miss Holden?" He sat up in his chair and reached to grasp the single page that spewed from the fax machine.
"That's what I was told." Kate could feel her stomach rolling and willed herself to settle down, clasping her hands in her lap.
"What if I asked for more than water rights, Miss Holden?" Magnus asked as his gaze scanned what appeared to be a sheet of figures and then found hers. "What if I said I wanted to buy the rights to your body as well?"
Kate shrank back into her chair as his words registered. She must have heard him wrong, surely. "What did you just say?" She gripped the arms of the chair, her fingers digging into the soft leather. A wave of shock went through her body, the air squeezing from her lungs. Panic gripped her chest, and Kate shook her head. "No, you didn't just ask me that."
"You heard me well enough." He glared at her. "You and the water rights are to be one package."
"You obviously do things different in the big city, Mr. Lane, but out here in the country it is customary to date a lady before trying to get her into bed. I'm not for sale like a bale of hay." Kate's very being bristled with anger and lifted her chin."

Author Bio:

Ann swears she was born with a book in her hand and has never put it down. A lifelong love of reading has finally culminated in achieving her dream of writing…and publication.
She lives in the middle of the desert in Australia in a small mining town with her own handsome hero of many years. Ann has always loved the ups and downs of life in small communities and she shares this with readers in her rural romances.

Strong, spunky heroines with a good dose of sass thrown in feature in her stories. Of course these women need an equally strong hero. Bring on the Outback hero and watch the passion ignite.

When not writing, Ann runs a day care centre and looks after young children for working Mums and Dads. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, walking her very large dog, Hugo, and fighting with her computer.

Ann B. Harrison on her sizzling new release: RED HOT.

Hey everyone! Let's give a warm welcome to my first official guest blogger(yay!)the wonderfully talented Ann B. Harrison. Today she is going to share the inspiration behind her recent release RED HOT.

Ann: This year I had the pleasure of going to Las Vegas with my dear writing buddy Annie Seaton. After we got the business side of things done we took a little side trip to San Francisco. I loved the place. It is as pretty as you see in the movies. The dipping streets that leave your heart in your throat and the
stunning old homes totally won me over. Fisherman's Wharf was fantastic and we took a bus tour from there to Monterey and Carmel. Our tour guide was full of information and we saw so much that we
would have missed if we had driven ourselves. But it was the coast road that drew my breath. Rugged and raw, I was amazed at the beauty of the area and decided there and then that I had to write a book with this as the setting. It wasn't long before Red Douglas made himself known to me. He is geeky, shy and terribly hot. He needed a strong woman to take control and Rhian just happened to have a cottage along the coast where Red rode his bike to ward of his sexual frustrations. How fortunate the two of them should meet.
Read their story, you won't be disappointed.

Red Douglas is a geeky scientist. He rides his Ducati pushing the limits with speed to ease his sexual frustration.

Rhian Gallagher is a veterinarian suffering from a long term man drought. When Red crashes his bike at her front door, she takes it as a sign from the Fates. Determined to take the shy scientist under her wing and into her bed as soon as possible, Rhian talks him into a relationship, but fails to tell him her wiccan secret.

Their happiness depends on Red admitting there is more to the world than what he sees under his microscope.

Excerpt:
Rhian looked at him with glazed eyes mentally shaking herself. “Um, sorry miles away. That would be wonderful, thanks.” She watched him move with the grace of a cat toward the barbeque and her mind shot back to her lusty dreams. Nothing would please her more than to get out of her chair, grab his body and run her hands around his cute tight butt cheeks squeezing them under her itchy palms. Her body heated and she could feel the blush running up her cheeks. If the Goddess was gracing her tonight, it would be another bout of hot sex with the delectable mild mannered scientist. Oohh, she was getting seriously flustered thinking about it.
Rhian clenched her legs together and willed away the volcano that threatened to erupt with little excuse to spur it on. She had never had an orgasm without touching herself but she was so damned close it was sending her body into overdrive. Think boring, flowers in the field, a cool stream over rounded pebbles, anything but running her tongue over the stunning body cooking her a nice juicy steak for dinner.
Rhian tried to keep her thoughts to herself and not act like a weak willed harlot desperate for her next sexual encounter over dinner but she struggled. Every time Red lifted his fork to his mouth her gaze followed it. She panted softly and had to stifle the small noises that rose in her throat. Her skin was on fire and small jolts of electricity were going to all of her most sensitive spots. If he didn't look like he was interested in making a move on her soon she would clear the table top in one foul swoop and crawl into his lap her claws out ready for the kill.
“What did your brother mean when he said 'did I know about you'?”
